15-key Karimba 'Nyunga Nyunga'
Tuning:
Jege Tapera Tuning
Reference Key:
D (closest chromatic pitch)
Key Count:
15
Sound Info:
Buzzers muted.
Maker:
Sebastian Pott
Made in:
2025
Comments:
Sebastian built this karimba inspired by Brigitte Ulrich's initiative to put up all of Andrew Tracey's transcriptions of Jege Tapera's music on the platform.
Though he tried to match the tuning of Tapera's recordings faithfully, it is not meant as a replica of Tapera's instrument, which looks considerably smaller on the old photos. He rather used a soundboard that he felt had been waiting for this occasion for fifteen years.
Recorded by Sebastian Pott in March 2025. Samples and images copyright: Sebastian Pott.
Below are the pitches Sebastian took from the recordings (keys names in Pitch+Octaves.1 notation). They differ slightly from the pitches reported in Tracey's article.
