Mbira dzavadzimu: "L-142"
Tuning:
Gandanga
Reference Key:
F# / Gb (closest chromatic pitch)
Key Count:
22
Maker:
Lee Kumbani
Made in:
2004
Comments:
This mbira has no RI1' key. Sound samples taken from L137.
Decorative grooves on the side surfaces and in the lower bulge of the soundboard.
One of a set of ten mbiras in the same tuning, commissioned by Klaus-Peter Brenner for use in student workshops at the University of Göttingen, Germany.
Substituting a proper deze, each mbira comes with a plastic salad bowl as a resonator, attached with a clever stick construction.
Klaus-Peter donated the set to SR in 2025, given that the instruments stays together and continue to be used for teaching purposes. It can be borrowed for workshops upon request.
