Mbira dzaVaNdau "Danda" type
Reference Key:
F (closest chromatic pitch)
Key Count:
31
Sound Info:
Buzzers dampened.
Maker:
unknown
Place Made:
near Bubye bridge, Zimbabwe
Made in/before:
2003
Comments:
Ian says that Pedro Espi Sanchez bought the mbira from its maker, who was apparently playing at the roadside at Bubye bridge, which is located on the A4 at the Matabeleland South/Masvingo province border.
Presumably the maker, whose name we do not know, lived nearby. It was made some time before 2003.
Sound samples and photos by Ian Garrett.
Swapped samples of the
LM2'
and
RU2'
keys, because samples of the former sound better while the latter is the much more commonly used key.
